An Eco Lodge Experience in Alaska

Alderwood Retreat is an off-grid family-owned & operated eco lodge on the North end of Kodiak Island.

The lodge is situated on forty acres on the north shore of Kodiak Island. Camp is nestled at the base of the nearly 2500 foot high Kupreanoff Mountain, on a 50 foot bluff overlooking Kupreanoff Straits, which is a five-mile wide channel separating Kodiak from Raspberry and Afognak Islands.

Activities at Alderwood Retreat
At Alderwood Retreat, there's something for everyone. You can try a little bit of everything or a whole lot of nothing...

  • Marine Tours: The bays and passes surrounding Alderwood are home to sea otter, porpoise, whales and an occasional harbor seal.
  • Diving: The diving in Alaska is reputed to be some of the best in the whole world...
  • Beachcombing: Many treasures and strange creatures may be found while exploring the stretches of black slate or granite covered beaches.
  • Kayaking: Our super-stable recreational kayaks will make you feel right at home on the water within minutes. Paddling to a nearby bird rookery or alongside a 60-foot long Fin whale will take your breath away!
  • Birdwatching: There are well over 200 species of birds to be found in the Kodiak Island archipaelago, and the largest Kittiwake rookery in the northern hemisphere is just a short boat ride from the lodge.
  • Photography: Photo opportunities abound with lush vegetation, prolific wildlife and nearly 20 hours of daylight during the long summer days on "the Emerald Isle."
  • Hiking: There are a variety of hiking trails available, ranging from old WWII roads to animal paths, for those who want to get some exercise in the great outdoors.
  • Fishing: World-class saltwater fishing may still be found in the pristine waters around Kodiak Island & fly-fishers will love our river systems.
