Polar Exploration in the Arctic
Highlights
See polar bears, walruses, beluga whales, reindeer, Arctic terns, kittiwakes and other seabirds
The remarkable islands of the Svalbard Archipelago are part of Norway, lying far to the north of the Norwegian mainland and high above the Arctic Circle - a group of wild and rugged mountains, with much of their highland areas being covered in ice & snow.
There are fjords along the west and north coasts of Spitsbergen which provide plenty of opportunity for exploration, and enjoyment of the wonderful scenery and often prolific wildlife. After time spent visiting and exploring parts of the northwest coast and its great fjords. We then head west across the Greenland Sea to spend a few days discovering another of the world's most remarkable destinations, parts of the east coast of Greenland, as we work our way south.
After leaving Greenland, we then head to the southeast, towards the volcanic island of Iceland. The Westmann Islands boast evidence of very recent geological activity, and our ship makes a perfect base from which we can explore this area before our trip finishes at the capital city of Reykjavik.
