Moab's must-do hike is the maze-like Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. Accessed only when accompanied by an experienced guide, this hike twists and turns among contorted orange-tan fins, towers, spires and arches.

Starting amongst ancient petrified sand dunes, we hike downhill to a dry sand and rock wash. The wash disappears over an edge, plunging into the depths of a hidden chasm. "We go down there?!" is the usual question after peering over the edge.
