Biking in Washington

In our 29th year, we've finally discovered Washington State Highway 20. We've been riding this road in sections as parts of numerous tours forever. But last season, in the context of our Sea-to-Shining-Sea cross-continental odyssey over the course of our initial 7 days, we rode Highway 20 from its western portal at Discovery Bay on the Olympic Peninsula to its eastern terminus on the banks of the Pend O'Reille River in Newport.

Admittedly subjective, Washington 20 is the most beautiful, cycling-friendly, continuous highway in America. It is the absolute best! At some point in the course of that first week's ride last season, there was no doubt that a new Timberline program had emerged. And so, Washington's Boundary Country becomes our 2011 edition of our Sea-to-Sky Series.
